windsor. the history

A story to tell.

1889

The men’s clothing factory, Roos & Kahn, was founded by business people Leo Roos and Isidor Kahn in Bielefeld.

1960

The name windsor. came into being – and was here to stay. The managing partner, Günter Klasing, took over the company and stamped it with his penchant for expensive fabrics from England, announcing the birth of Windsor Kleiderwerk G. Klasing KG. Jackets, trousers and coats became the core of the brand’s range while light fabrics and fine workmanship came to embody the company philosophy, representing a novelty on the market.

1977

Launch of the first windsor. ladies’ collection, which quickly developed into a separate, quality brand setting the very highest standards.

1983

Windsor GmbH was taken over by U. J. Textil Handels GmbH & Co. KG. Under the direction of the brothers, Uwe and Jochen Holy, the focus was firmly on consistent brand management.

1993

The brand was given a new appearance, a new message and a new logo. The “Encounters in Windsor” advertising campaign conveyed emotion and a spirit of the times.

2000

The windsor. Art Collection was presented to the public for the first time. In the rooms of Philomene Magers’ Munich art gallery, the company presented, among other things, a collection of contemporary photographs – the inauguration was attended by non other than Helmut Newton, who photographed guests during the event. Selected works from the windsor. Art Collection have since been exhibited in the windsor. stores.

2004

To consolidate synergies and market performance, the shareholders decided to encourage closer cooperation between windsor. in Bielefeld and Strellson AG in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland. Strellson AG was made responsible for the brand management of this new group, with windsor. men relocating entirely to Kreuzlingen as a result.
