Highest quality standards

Our supplier Black Noir also bears the “Made in Italy” seal of quality. This is because sustainability is a top priority for our cashmere supplier, which is based in Tuscany, Italy. The quality standard begins right here at the source: the cashmere yarns. The acclaimed recycled cashmere collection “Re_fabric” is now known worldwide and includes recycled cashmere yarns. All the materials come from discarded cashmere jumpers that would have ended up in the rubbish without Black Noir. The collected fabrics are shredded and spun into new yarn according to the upcycling principle. It’s the kick-off for sustainable cashmere production!

Sustainable cashmere production

Which craftsmanship is behind cashmere production? And how does Black Noir guarantee the highest fabric quality while maintaining equally high ecological standards?  The first step is to verify that the sweaters to be used are made of 100% cashmere. Black Noir explicitly excludes material blends. Next, those fabrics that have passed the quality control are carefully sorted by colour. The pre-sorted fabrics are now fed through a shredding machine, which cuts up the fabric into smaller parts. The obtained fibres are ultimately cleaned and spun again into a yarn. The yarn that is produced can now be given a second life.

Tuscany: Textile production site

Due to its climate and picturesque landscape, Tuscany is not only one of the most popular holiday destinations, but is also considered a key location for the international textile industry. One of the most important attractions is the “Museo del Tessuto” – the Textile Museum. Here you can explore fabrics and textiles that have defined the Italian region for decades. The museum, which is located in a factory building from the 19th century, provides a fascinating glimpse into the history of textile production – including historic looms of past centuries. Even today, companies like Black Noir make Tuscany one of the most important places for international textile production.

Re_branded cashmere – the inspiration behind it

Black Noir has made a significant name for itself, particularly through the invention of “Re_branded cashmere”. The idea was born out of the need to take an ecological approach. Re_branded combines comfort with a sense of style and sustainability, and breathes new life into pre-loved fibres. This concept of so-called “New Recycled Luxury” thus combines the past with the present and at the same time creates fashion for the future. What makes cashmere so durable and future-oriented? The fine and very rare fibre is obtained from the hair of cashmere goats, which are mostly native to Mongolia, Tibet, Afghanistan or Kazakhstan. A cashmere goat produces a maximum of 300 grams of precious non-woven material per year. Furthermore, cashmere products are very long-lasting and become softer as the months and years go by. The less you wash this coveted fabric, the longer it usually lasts. Neutral soaps that do not damage the fibres are best.

Reuse instead of retail

Upcycling is now regarded as a key element in textile recycling. But what is the difference between upcycling and recycling? Both methods conserve resources and avoid waste by using raw materials that have already been used. This also extends the life cycle of the garments. windsor. is also making a statement against throwaway culture with its cooperation with Black Noir. In contrast to recycling, the upcycling process for “Re-branded Cashmere” does not break down fabrics into their smallest components, but reuses them directly and upgrades their quality at the same time. This is also the case with the cashmere jumpers from Black Noir. The discarded sweaters are simply shredded and directly reassembled. Not only does this save the energy required for new production, it also reduces the overall ecological footprint. Upcycling puts resources like cashmere fibres back into the value chain.

The principles behind Black Noir

Made in Italy

The Italian region of Tuscany has a rich history spanning centuries of textile production. The result is many years of expertise that benefit companies like Black Noir. From historic looms to today’s sorting machines that separate the cashmere yarns into their individual parts, Italian craftsmanship continues to live on in Tuscany today and is one of the main pillars at Black Noir.

Upcycling

Why waste resources when we can use what is right in front of us? Black Noir not only considers its own textile production, but the value chain as a whole, sourcing cashmere yarns that gave warmth and joy years before. With “Re_branded Cashmere”, Black Noir is always on the lookout for new innovations while also creating new paths for a more sustainable future.

Sustainability

The focus on sustainability unites windsor. and Black Noir, because their cooperation in developing new solutions for a more sustainable future is elementary for future windsor. customers. By partnering with Black Noir, not only do we improve windsor. products, but we continue to contribute to a greener future.
