The quality of silk:

Luxurious, durable and functional

Our qualities: Silk

One of the most valuable textiles with its own long history. Silk is able to look back on a rich tradition, and was considered a precious fabric in the past as it is now. Its versatile properties and luxurious appearance in particular make silk dresses and silk blouses coveted items of clothing for all seasons.

The history of silk

The first silk find dates back to around 2500 BC and to a small butterfly. This Chinese Bombyx Mori prefers the leaves of the precious mulberry tree for its food. The larvae of the butterfly eventually produce a fibre that we know as silk. A single cocoon thread can measure between 3000 and 4000 metres long. Alongside cashmere, silk is also considered to be one of the world’s most precious textiles due to its scarcity and the complex production process. This is because at least five to ten cocoon threads are needed to Did you know that only about one percent of the fibres produced worldwide are silk fibres?

The characteristics of silk

Silk is particularly popular in warm weather, as the cooling properties of the fibres make it comfortable to wear even in hot temperatures. In addition, a blouse or shirt with silk content absorbs around 30% of its own weight in moisture and dries quickly.

The ideal travel companion: Even stowed away in your luggage, silk dresses (for summer holidays) and silk knit cardigans (for winter trips) hardly crease, and can be worn immediately upon arrival - without the need for any time-consuming ironing or steaming.

Lightweight and high-quality with a sheen: The soft natural fibre is not only functional and particularly tear-resistant, but also impresses with its luxurious sheen.

Another advantage: silk is also suitable for sensitive skin and so can also be worn by people with allergies. Silk is like a second skin, and simply wraps itself around the silhouette instead of lying heavily on the body.

How to take good care of silk:

1.

There are two ways to wash silk. For both options, there are a few tips to keep in mind to ensure that the timelessly elegant fabric will still look good after the first few washes. Silk knitted cardigans or knitted sweaters do not necessarily need to be washed straight after wearing. Airing overnight is often enough to get rid of any unpleasant odours.

2.

Hand washing silk:

To gently clean silk with minimal stains, use a mild soap or a detergent specially formulated for silk. Finally, place it in cold or lukewarm water and rinse gently until all the soap has gone. We advise against using sponges or brushes to do this.

3.

Machine washing silk

Please follow the care instructions on the product label for both hand washing and machine washing. Not all silk blouses and silk dresses can be washed in a washing machine. Set the washing temperature at a maximum of 30 degrees for selected items as per instructions.

This is the best way to dry and store silk:

1.

all the same, durable silk still needs to be treated with care. Even when drying it, the high-value material must not be wrung out or even spun. Instead, wrap the wet fabric in a towel and let it dry in a shaded place with good ventilation. Avoid direct sunlight to avoid unpleasant colour changes.

2.

In spite of the misconception that silk cannot be ironed, this high-quality fabric can be ironed at the lowest setting when damp and turned inside out. However, often this is not necessary, as gently smoothing out the creases or hanging up is often enough. As was already mentioned, silk is crease-resistant.

3.

Silk blouses or short skirts with silk content often remain in the wardrobe for a long time over the winter. This may result in stubborn creases. Here, high humidity and warmth after a hot shower in the bathroom may help. Simply leave the silk garment to hang up overnight!
